Garzo crowns double podium with victory in Race 2, Tulovic scores decent points in Spielberg

Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE rider Hector Garzo takes a 38-point lead into the upcoming finale of the 2024 MotoE season in Italy after finishing second in Race 1 and winning Race 2 at Spielberg. For his part, Lukas Tulovic scored points at the Austrian Red Bull Ring with an eighth and a seventh place.

The Austrian Grand Prix was the penultimate round of the 2024 FIM MotoE World Championship, making the results on the way to the title decider all the more crucial.

With two podium finishes, one of which was a victory in the second race of the day, Hector Garzo is making great strides towards his goal of winning the said title. The Spaniard got off to a good start in both races and snatched the holeshot on the first corner. From then on, there was a direct battle with pole-sitter Oscar Gutierrez in both races, but in Race 1 there was a scary moment on the second lap when the two collided on the exit of Turn 1. Fortunately, both remained seated, which led the battle for victory all the way to the finish line, which the 26-year-old eventually crossed in second place. Similar scenes followed in the second race, as compatriot Gutierrez again successfully attacked on the penultimate lap, but this time his crash ensured that Hector Garzo was the beaming winner, collecting a further 25 points. With a lead of 38 points, he now travels to the all-important finale in Misano, where he could be crowned world champion in the very first race.

Lukas Tulovic, on the other hand, did not find it so easy to keep up with the pace of the front runners this weekend, even though the Bavarian felt good on his Ducati V21L. In the first race, the 24-year-old unfortunately lost a lot of ground at the start after another rider went wide in front of him, which cost the German a lot of time and positions. He fought tenaciously in eighth place to limit the damage. But in the second race of what had been a sunny day until then, 'Tulo' also lost positions towards the end despite a good start and was unable to get close again in the short 7-lap sprint and catch up with the leading group. With a total of 17 points more in his pocket, he leaves the Red Bull Ring in ninth place in the world championship ranking.

There are now only two races left this season to decide who will win the world title. The Misano World Circuit welcomes the 18-strong MotoE grid from 6th - 7th September for the final showdown of the year, in which Hector Garzo from the German Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE team will start the race as the favourite. But the German racing team also has nothing less than the world championship title at stake in the team classification.
