Fantastic first row for Valencia showdown
After an ultra-exciting head-to-head race of the Dynavolt Intact GP duo in the final qualifying of the 2018 season, Xavi Vierge and Marcel Schrötter secured second and third place in the first row!
On Saturday morning, the Moto2 riders had to ride on wet track again, despite better weather prospects. The last free practice began shortly after a rain shower, but Xavi Vierge was unstoppable and finished the session as clear leader. The Spaniard was undoubtedly a pole position contender. But also teammate Marcel Schrötter was among the strongest riders, after he finished eleventh in the wet, maintaining the good feeling aboard his Kalex.
The rest of the day was free from precipitation making the qualifying to the first dry session of the weekend. A nerve-racking battle between the two Intact GP riders in the fight for pole position began, with only Luca Marini seriously intervening. The trio took turns at the top and made it extremely exciting until the very end.
Marini, however, was a tick stronger and did not give up the pole, although Xavi Vierge in second position came dangerously close with only 0.027 seconds distance and with Marcel Schrötter following closely behind, pushing the last lap with red sectors. Ultimately, the Bavarian secured third place and thus his seventh first row of the year!
After Australia the Moto2 team from Memmingen returned to the front row with both riders and now has an excellent starting position to fight for the podium on Sunday at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit for the last time this year.
