Great team result with Schrötter & Vierge in the front row of Phillip Island

The Dynavolt Intact GP duo stormed into the front row on Saturday at Phillip Island. From places two and three Marcel Schrötter and Xavi Vierge will try to fight for the podium or victory in the Australian Grand Prix.

Marcel Schrötter and Xavi Vierge had a significant role in the extremely exciting qualifying. Only the Italian Mattia Pasini had the better outcome to catch the first spot at the end.

After Marcel Schrötter had already claimed the lead in the morning of the last free practice session, he was considered one of the main favourites for the Australian pole position. But also teammate Xavi Vierge, ninth in FP3, was aiming for the top position with a strong rhythm. However, after Mattia Pasini set the fastest time with an outstanding last sector, all attempts to beat the Italian failed. This could have been due to the missing slipstream, but also to the changed wind conditions, especially on the start-finish straight.

Nevertheless, the joy was twice as great when no other rival was able to displace the pair of the Memmingen racing team from the top 3. The last time that both riders of the Dynavolt Intact GP team made it into the first row was in 2016 in Jerez de la Frontera with Jonas Folger on P2 and Sandro Cortese on P3.

This is already the sixth front row for Marcel Schrötter this season. Apart from the third place in Barcelona, he already took second place four times - for the last time in Aragon and before in Misano. Last year the Bavarian started the Australian Grand Prix from the same position.

For Xavi Vierge, third place on the grid means a comeback to the front row since Le Mans at the end of May. At the beginning of the year the fast Spaniard had already secured his first pole position in Argentina.

The 17th Moto2 race of the 2018 season will start on Sunday at 14:20 Australian time and will be held over 25 laps. The clear goal of the Intact GP duo is to fight for the podium tomorrow.
