Intact GP-Duo leads Friday sessions of Austin
Dynavolt Intact GP riders Marcel Schrötter and Tom Lüthi stormed to the top in both free practice sessions on the opening day of the Texas Grand Prix.
Marcel Schrötter led the Moto2 field on sunny Friday at the Circuit of The Americas by half a second. After the third of the World Championship had already dominated the morning with a gap of 0.485 seconds, he set the first benchmark for the start of the Austin weekend in the afternoon with his time of 2'09.982 and a gap of 0.508 seconds.
For the second practice Marcel Schrötter and his crew tried out a major setup change at the beginning, which did not work optimally on the extremely bumpy Texas course. The professional team quickly rebuilt the Kalex triumph to the old base and the Intact rider promptly raced to first place.
Tom Lüthi was always close to his teammate in second place. The Swiss rode his fastest time of 2'10.490 with old tyres and tried everything to beat his pit neighbour. Not quite satisfied with the setup for the demanding track, which never feels the same due to the uneven tarmac, he and his squad will be sorting out a few more points for tomorrow.
The weather forecasts for Saturday predict a rain and thunderstorm probability of about 60% for the morning, i.e. for the last free practice session before the qualifying sessions.
