Lüthi & Schrötter start into new Moto2 era with Jerez Test
After the final in Valencia, the Dynavolt Intact GP team travelled to Jerez de la Frontera, to complete the first test of the 2019 season with Marcel Schrötter and Tom Lüthi.
The week after the Valencia Grand Prix the Intact GP team opened an exciting new chapter. On the 4.4-kilometer Circuito de Jerez the team was able to test the 2019 Kalex prototypes with the new 765cc three-cylinder Triumph engines for the first time at an official test, which took part from Friday to Sunday.
For Tom Lüthi, it was not only a comeback to Moto2 after riding in the premier class last season, but it was also a debut in the Dynavolt Intact GP team. During the three days in Andalusia, the Swiss had to master the transition from MotoGP back to Moto2, the category in which he was runner-up in 2016 and 2017. The main focus was on the seating position and the familiarisation with his new crew around Crew-Chief Michael Thier. At the end of the test, the 32-year-old finished in twelfth position with a time of 1: 42.361, only 0.8 seconds behind the leaders.
For Marcel Schrötter, the 8th of the World Championship in 2018, the Jerez test meant a fresh start as well. For the first time he was able to gain experience with the more powerful Triumph engine and the new Magneti Marelli electronics, which offers the Moto2 riders more set-up options for the gear shifting and engine braking process. The 25-year-old had a lot of fun with his new bike, finishing in seventh place with a time of 1'42.241 and seven-tenths of a second behind the fastest, Luca Marini.
On the last day, the Dynavolt Intact GP riders were able to complete some laps in the wet after repeated short rain showers to get their first impressions in these conditions. The technicians and data engineers now have a lot of work to do in the next two months before the Moto2 team from Memmingen returns to Jerez for a private test on February 11th and 12th, 2019.
