Meggle takes eighth place in the final & bittersweet end of season for Alcoba

At the final weekend of the 2018 FIM CEV Repsol Moto2 European Championship in Valencia, Dynavolt Intact GP junior riders Matthias Meggle and Marc Alcoba showed once again what they are capable of and proved the great progress they have made throughout the season.

After his injury-related retirement at both races at Albacete, Matthias Meggle was back on track at Valencia and took another step in his development as a rookie in the Moto2 class during the final weekend of the season. In Sunday's race he stormed to a great eighth place and finally secured 14th place in the standings of the European Championship.

Marc Alcoba qualified for fourth place on the second row and was haunting for a podium finish in the final race of the year. The fight for third place, in which the Intact GP junior rider as well as Tommaso Marcon and Jesko Raffin were involved, attracted a lot of attention. Who would win this fight? The Spaniard fought spectacular duels, but always tried to be fair. Nevertheless, he and the Italian Marcon were sanctioned and disqualified by the race control for unsportsmanlike riding. However, at the end he was able to finish the season as 12th in the overall standings.

This is part of racing and part of the learning process, yet Marc Alcoba and Matthias Meggle can look back on a remarkable 2018 season and confidently await what the future holds for them.
