Gonzalez climbs Qatar podium with P3

The fourth round of the Moto2 World Championship season presented the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team with major challenges. But Manuel Gonzalez and Senna Agius showed fighting spirit and achieved impressive results: Gonzalez secured third place after starting from pole-position, while Agius finished 14th and scored two championship points despite a jump start and three long lap penalties.

Manuel Gonzalez started confidently from pole-position and led the race in the early stages. After an intense battle, the Spaniard dropped back to fifth place at times, but again showed a strong pace at the end. In a thrilling duel for second place, he had to concede defeat to Dennis Öncü, but finished the race in an important third place. With 16 more championship points, the 22-year-old travels to his home Grand Prix in Jerez de la Frontera in second place of the championship, where he is once again among the top favourites.

Senna Agius experienced a turbulent race. Starting from 13th on the grid, the 19-year-old Australian had a jump start, which earned him a double long lap penalty. A third penalty followed as the race direction criticised the incorrect fullfillment of the long-lap. Undeterred, Agius fought his way back from 20th place and finished 14th with a strong performance. His efforts were rewarded with two championship points - a result that underlines his mental strength and determination.

At the European opener in Jerez from the 25th to 27th of April, Gonzalez and Agius will be looking to confirm their strong form and collect more points. Both riders are highly motivated to prove their impressive pace once again.

"I don't think the result shows what we could have achieved today, because we started the race from pole position and that was my plan, to finish in that position. But I think I was a bit too focused on tyre management at the beginning. That forced me to change my riding style though, I think I should have pushed a bit harder to set 1:57 lap times. Other riders, on the other hand, pushed harder. In the end, I wanted to recover, but I didn't have a good feeling with the tyre. When I tried to pass riders to close the gap to the front, it was difficult to overtake. I was really on the limit. But we learn from it and I'm happy to be back on the podium in conditions as difficult as today."

"I apologize because I made a rookie mistake today. I don't think I've ever jumped a start before, so I'm angry with myself. I'm sorry because we worked really hard this weekend and made a step with both my feeling and my riding and I threw it all away with my mistake. I tried to come back and get some points to take something home. In the end, it's my mistake. I'm sorry for my crew because they work really hard, and I work hard too to get the results I know we can achieve. I am now focussing on Jerez, but all in all I would like to apologize to everyone."

"Today's result is somehow satisfying, but somehow not. Of course, you always want more, especially when you see the potential of our two riders. On both days of practices, both crews worked out a really good setup for the race and this time we did everything right in terms of strategy and set-up. That's why we finished on the podium. We feel sorry for Senna, because if you deduct the time lost for the two plus one long lap, that would have been at least seventh place for him in the end. Given his pace, even more would probably have been possible. A place in the top five would have been realistic. In that respect, we feel sorry for Senna.
With Manu, on the other hand, everything was fine. I'm sure that more would have been possible for him too. But he himself admitted that he was perhaps a little too cautious at the start, because tyre wear is always an issue here that you can't neglect under any circumstances. Towards the end, however, he managed it well. Perhaps it was also difficult for him to ride in the pack and not pulling away at the front. It wasn't quite 100 percent right, but if you end up with a trophy, you have to be happy. So, I think we did a good job again. Things are looking good and now that the races in Europe are starting, we will obviously do everything we can to stay in contention."
