Veijer fifth in spectacular Misano battle, Suzuki with incredible fightback

Collin Veijer and Tatsuki Suzuki as well as Jakob Rosenthaler delivered the LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Moto3 team a strong race that could not have been more exciting. While Veijer found his pace late on, the Japanese rider shot up from P23 to P8 and wildcard rider Rosenthaler was also successfully involved in the top 20.

The San Marino Grand Prix was undoubtedly one of the craziest races of the year, as there was hardly any time to catch your breath. Right from the start, things got very tight at times and a triple crash left everyone breathless right away. Meanwhile, Collin Veijer lost a few positions in the aforementioned tangle-up at the start of the first lap and had to fight his way back from tenth place. In the meantime, there was already a 2.3s gap to the top 5, which the Dutchman was able to close together with Angel Piqueras in the last six laps. The 19-year-old even managed to move up to fifth place on the final lap, passing his title rival David Alonso. Even though Veijer had to relinquish his second place in the world championship for the time being, he is now tied on points with Ivan Ortola for fourth place in the world championship ahead of the 14th race of the season.

Meanwhile, Tatsuki Suzuki delivered an absolutely brilliant catch-up race, starting from 23rd on the grid and moving up to 14th place after only the first lap. But that was not the end. Within a few laps, the Japanese rider had moved up to seventh position, where he briefly caught his breath just behind his teammate. However, the eventual and first-time race winner Piqueras was already lurking from behind and found his way back to the front from his double long lap penalty. In the end, the 26-year-old had to let his battle group go. This strong race was rewarded with eight points, which moved him up to twelfth place in the championship.

LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Moto3 wildcard rider Jakob Rosenthaler finished his only second World Championship race in a strong 19th place after starting from 27th position into the 20-lap race just off the Adriatic coast. An impressive performance from the 18-year-old Austrian, as he was in a group that reached all the way up to the points. The numerous battles give the rider from Linz a very positive feeling for next weekend when he starts the next Moto3 Junior GP round in Aragon.

The Veijer and Suzuki duo, on the other hand, have a little more time to rest, as they do not have to get back to work until September 20th - 22nd, when the 14th Grand Prix of the season is then on the agenda. The venue for the Emilio-Romagna GP will once again be the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
