Schrötter seventh in Valencia & Vierge crashes on podium hunt
With a seventh place Marcel Schrötter completed the rainy season final in Valencia in a sovereign manner. Unfortunately, Xavi Vierge was unlucky in his farewell race for the Dynavolt Intact GP team, crashing in third position.
Despite the heavy rain during the last Grand Prix weekend of the 2018 season, thousands of MotoGP fans have made their way to the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia to cheer for their idols. They were rewarded with extremely exciting races on Sunday.
When Marcel Schrötter started from third position, he was extremely lucky that he got away from a collision in front of him. However, he fell back a little and from then on fought in a group that ranged from places five to ten. Although the 25-year-old had a fast rhythm in the second half of the race, it was not enough to reach the fifth place anymore. The Bavarian ended the last GP in seventh place and thus again in the top ten, as each of the 15 races, which he finished in 2018.
Xavi Vierge started his home race from second position and was determined to secure a podium finish in his last race for the Dynavolt Intact GP team. The Spaniard was actually on his way to doing so. First, he was briefly in the lead in lap one and later fought for second and third place. But after eleven laps, the hunt for the podium was over when the 21-year-old slipped over the front wheel, landing in the gravel with his Kalex-bike. Although he was able to get back up and continue, he had to retire after one more lap.
Dynavolt Intact GP secured fourth place in the team ranking and 2018 was the best Moto2 season for both riders!
Marcel Schrötter has scored more points than ever since competing in the MotoGP World Championship. With 147 points he conquered the eighth place in the ranking. In Misano he celebrated his first ever podium, a very special highlight of his GP career and for an unbelievable seven times, he stormed into row one this year.
Although Xavi Vierge slid down to eleventh place in the Championship after crashing in Valencia and thus repeated his 2017 result, his collected 131 points are significantly more than what he had a year ago. He got on the Podium twice (2nd place in Argentina, 3rd place in Australia), took a spot in the front row four times and secured the first pole position of his Grand Prix career. The Dynavolt Intact GP team thanks him for the successful season and wishes Xavi Vierge all the best for the future!
The 2018 season is over, but already next week begins a new chapter for the Dynavolt Intact GP team. From Friday to Sunday (23 - 25.11.), The Moto2 squad from Memmingen will be testing the new Kalex motorcycles with Triumph engines and electronics from Magneti Marelli in Jerez de la Frontera. In addition to Marcel Schrötter, the new team member Tom Lüthi will complete the first laps of the 2019 season. And also Jesko Raffin will join the Intact GP family and participate in the first test of the new MotoE class.
