Vierge and Schrötter secure eighth and tenth of the grid in Malaysia

Xavi Vierge was able to claim a third row position in the qualifying at Sepang, while Marcel Schrötter will tackle tomorrow's heat battle straight out of the fourth row.

The last free practice on the second day at the Sepang International Circuit, just outside the city of Kuala Lumpur, started with a damp track again this morning. Fortunately this time, however, it stayed dry for Saturday's crucial qualifying session and Dynavolt Intact GP riders Xavi Vierge and Marcel Schrötter were free to fight for the best possible starting position for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The rhythm during the 45-minute session at over 32 ° C was very fast from the beginning. Although Xavi Vierge was able to significantly improve his feeling for the bike in the morning compared to Friday, he initially still missed something to keep up with the top guys. After the Spaniard and his crew made another setup change halfway through the qualifying, it finally seemed to fit. With a time of 2'06.687 he managed the jump from P15 to eighth. This meant row three for the 21-year-old, from where he will start the 18-lap race on Sunday between KTM riders Miguel Oliveira and Brad Binder.

Only half a tenth behind, Marcel Schrötter qualified for the tenth starting position. The 25-year-old was again haunted by a technical failure, as his Kalex didn't start immediately for the final run. Still, the Intact GP rider had eight minutes to improve the ninth place he occupied at the time. But as much as he pushed, he couldn't beat his lap time of 2'06.742 and finally slipped back into fourth row. From there, he will push hard tomorrow and give everything to show a great comeback as he did in Australia.

Due to the high probability of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon, a new schedule for the Malaysia Grand Prix 2018 has been announced.
