Gonzalez second fastest in qualifying & Agius on row 5 in Austin
Manuel Gonzalez from the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team once again secured a place on the front row of the grid at the third race weekend of the season at the Circuit of the Americas. The Spaniard will start the race from P2, while his team-mate Senna Agius will start from the fifth row (P15) and will be hoping for more championship points.
The current championship leader, Manuel Gonzalez, was unimpressed by a difficult Friday in the wet and made a clear statement on Saturday with a new all-time lap record (2:07.355). As the fastest rider, he left his rivals 0.839 seconds behind in Q1 and confidently entered Q2 as the new lap record holder. There, the Spaniard fought for pole position until the end, but was finally beaten by Brit Jake Dixon. Nevertheless, the second grid position offers an excellent starting position for the 16-lap race, which starts at 12:15 American time (19:15 CET).
Senna Agius also put in a good performance. Despite difficult conditions on Friday, the Australian, currently fifth in the championship standings, secured a place in Q2 with P13 in the decisive practice session, where the 19-year-old ultimately qualified 15th for the fifth row of the grid. This is a solid starting position for the ambitious Australian to collect more points under the Texan sun.
