Agius & Binder on course for points at the Assen GP
The Dutch Grand Prix is not an easy place to race, and yet the LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Moto2 team's youngster Senna Agius managed to fuel hopes of a points-scoring finish with a fourth-row start. Darryn Binder is also on course for points after a positive day and 15th place on the grid.
In his first full World Championship season, Senna Agius always manages to shine with small highlights. The Australian recently achieved his best race result to date. Now the 19-year-old has once again managed to make it through to Q2 on a track that is new to him, as his third place in Q1 was enough for him to progress. In summery temperatures, the short succession of sessions took their toll on man and machine. Agius ultimately placed his Kalex in eleventh place, which will mean the fourth row of the grid on Sunday.
After Darryn Binder finished outside the top 20 on Friday, a strong twelfth place in P2 on Saturday morning gave him confidence. His 1'35.917 guaranteed the South African one of the coveted places within the top 14, which will go straight through to Q2. In the 15-minute Q2, the 26-year-old fought for every thousandth of a second and tried with all his might to repeat his time from the morning. Unfortunately, he didn't quite manage it and ended the day in 15th place on the grid on row five. Nevertheless, this grid position gives Binder the chance to make up a lot of ground and thus also points with a good start and his strong race pace.
The Moto2 duo of the German racing team is only one race away from contesting the Memmingen-based team's home Grand Prix at the Sachsenring and would like to lay a solid foundation in Assen. But the 22 laps of the Dutch TT will once again be exhausting. The eighth round of the Moto2 season starts at 12:15 (CEST).
