Garzo & Krummenacher swap championship places in Austria
The two MotoE sprint races at the Austrian Grand Prix were anything but easy. Hector Garzo and Randy Krummenacher of the DYNAVOLT INTACT GP Team managed to score points in both races, despite minor difficulties, and thus continue to hold their own in the World Championship.
The Red Bull Ring set the stage on this gloriously sunny Saturday for two more thrilling races in the all-electric world championship, in which Spain's Hector Garzo took fourth and fifth place to score a total of 24 points for himself. These important World Championship points allowed him to pass his teammate for fourth place. Aware of his strong pace and confidence in his Ducati, the 25-year-old now prepares for his home Grand Prix in Barcelona and hopes to return to the podium in front of his home crowd.
The challenging 4.32 km track also gave Randy Krummenacher a hard time in places over the past two days. The high temperatures on Saturday did not make the task any easier. The Swiss finished the first 7-lap sprint race in eleventh place and thus fell short of his expectations. But the 33-year-old trusted in his crew, who made further changes before race 2. This helped the experienced Krummenacher to fight back in Sprint 2. Position 7 secured him another nine of the eleven points he scored today. Krummenacher is now fifth in the world championship going into the penultimate world championship round, which will herald the final showdown of the season from the 1st - 3rd of September on Spanish soil, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
