Hector Garzo celebrates podium success at home Grand Prix
Two thrilling MotoE races left Hector Garzo with mixed feelings after he secured third place in race one that he so narrowly lost in race two. DYNAVOLT INTACT GP MotoE teammate Randy Krummenacher recorded a sixth and ninth-place finish in Barcelona, the penultimate round of the 2023 World Championship.
At the end of the Barcelona Grand Prix, local hero Hector Garzo was pleased with a successful race weekend in front of his home crowd. The Spaniard already showed in Race 1 on the 4.66 km track that he has the pace to fight with the best of the best. The first 7-lap sprint ended with a strong third place for Garzo, which also marked his fourth podium of the season. But the 25-year-old wanted more, and that was clearly evident in the second race. Again Garzo made the same good start as before and turned out of the first corner as fourth, only this time he seemed to have even more potential in him, even if he complained about the old familiar front tyreissues afterwards. With a well-aimed maneuver, he moved up to second position after the fastest race lap and finally inherited the lead from the crashed Torres on the penultimate lap. Unfortunately, he was not able to fight off his pursuers until the end and so they pushed him down to fourth place.
On the other hand, the races went less smoothly for Randy Krummenacher, who despite a strong pace could not get beyond sixth and ninth place. The Swiss sees the difficulty in the eleventh starting position because fighting your way to the front within seven laps is no easy task if you lose too much time in the chaos of the start. The 33-year-old will be hard on himself and his crew before the finale in order to lay better foundations for a successful race day already on Friday.
In the World Championship, despite further points, there is no significant change in terms of positions, only the gaps to the top three have shortened for Garzo and so the MotoE duo goes into the final showdown of the season, which will be fought out in Misano Adriatico from the 08th - 09th of September, in fourth and fifth place respectively.
