Senna Agius grabs 4th row in Misano II qualifying
Senna Agius, the LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP team's Moto2 rookie, qualified eleventh for the fourteenth round of the season at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. His team-mate Darryn Binder lines up on row seven in twentieth place after Q1 and, like the Australian, is aiming for the next points-scoring result.
Although the Italian Adriatic coast is famous for its long summers, even well into September, it rained so heavily in the days leading up to the penultimate European round of this progressing season that free practice had to be started on a wet tarmac on Friday morning.
Nevertheless, Senna Agius completed a few laps to familiarize himself with the conditions, but only P1 gave a first impression of realistic lap times. After P16 and P18 in the two practice sessions, the 19-year-old had to start in Q1 on Saturday afternoon, where he took another step forward with his Kalex and made his way into Q2 as the third fastest with a 1'35.398. In the last session before race Sunday, the Australian once again set a strong pace and is very confident of having a good chance of a successful finish in the race from eleventh on the grid in row four before embarking on the long overseas tour.
On the other side of the LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP team box, Darryn Binder also had to pull into Q1 qualifying after a small slip on Saturday morning. In the short session, in which the times were incredibly close together, he improved significantly but got caught up in some traffic towards the end, which robbed him of the chance to attack again from sixth position. But even though the South African did not make it into Q2, he has been satisfied with his development since the first Misano weekend. Of course, the 26-year-old expects more from himself but appreciates the confidence he has regained in his machine. The aim is to be back in the top 10 in the race when the lights go out for the fourteenth round of the season on Sunday at 11:15 am (CEST) for 22 thrilling race laps.
