Tulovic & Binder both start from row 7 in Sachsenring home race
Changeable conditions made the set-up work of LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Moto2 riders Darryn Binder and Lukas Tulovic difficult. After failing to advance to Q2, the teammates both start Sunday's 25-lap race from positions 19 and 21 on the seventh row.
The first weather capers on Friday were finally followed by a wet Saturday morning, which made it generally difficult to make a direct jump into Q2. For Lukas Tulovic the start was solid, especially in the wet. In Q1, the German in seventh position was not far from the Top4, which would have meant advancing to Q2. Nevertheless, the local hero is satisfied with the development and hopes that with a good start into the race, even from P21, a lot will still be possible. His expressed goal is to finish in the points in front of the German fans, who had already arrived in packs on Saturday.
On the other hand, the view of Darryn Binder is somewhat bittersweet, because the South African got along well on the traditional Saxon race track right from the start. In the dry Q1 qualifying, the 25-year-old had a good feeling and was sure he had his ticket to Q2. But unfortunately, his opponents stepped up the game and so he slipped out of the decisive Top4 by just 0.093s. Binder could do nothing more, but knows that his pace will be enough for a successful German Grand Prix, even from P19, and is happy to be able to attack right from turn 1.
The race start for the seventh Moto2 race of the season is at 12:15 (CEST).
