Success hungry into the hot overseas opener
Just a few days ago, the German LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Team packed the two Moto3 Husqvarnas of Collin Veijer and Tatsuki Suzuki as well as the Kalex bikes of Moto2 riders Darryn Binder and Senna Agius into the overseas containers at the Misano World Circuit to send them on the long journey to Indonesia, where the fifteenth round of the season will kick off the Asian tour from September 27th - 29th.
Selamat datang di Indonesia - welcome to Indonesia - will be the motto in a few days' time on the dream island of Lombok, where the Indonesian Grand Prix will kick off the six-week overseas tour. The venue will be the 4.3 km long Pertamina Mandalika Street Circuit, a modern race track on Bali's picturesque neighbouring island.
In Moto3, Collin Veijer will enter the race, where he finished fourth just 0.190s off the winner last year, as one of the title favourites. This time, the 2023 rookie will be aiming for more, not least to snatch more points from championship leader David Alonso in the title fight. Tatsuki Suzuki also wants to get back into the mix. The Japanese rider hopes to be able to fight for a place in the top 10 for 20 laps in front of thousands and thousands of enthusiastic fans on Sunday, a stone's throw from the coast of the Indian Ocean.
Darryn Binder made the trip to Indonesia no less motivated in order to fight his way back into the top 10 and hoping to further improve his 13th place from last year here in Mandalika. This Grand Prix in the tropical heat will certainly not be easy, but the 26-year-old is well prepared and in good spirits to get his Kalex back into the points on Sunday afternoon. Rookie Senna Agius did not feel in top form in Italy recently. Nevertheless, he delivered one of his best races taking seventh place. Now, despite the few days of recovery and the long journey to the other side of the world, the 19-year-old hopes to make an effortless start to the weekend on Friday and quickly adapt to the new track and physically challenging conditions.
European fans will have to set their alarms early again this weekend because, with a six-hour time difference, the Moto3 race starts at 06:00 (CEST) before Moto2 sets off for its 22-lap race at 07:15.
