Intact GP Juniors underline great potential again in Jerez

Although European Moto2 Championship leader Senna Agius was unable to continue his winning streak, the third event of the season ended on a very positive note from the point of view of the LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Junior Team.

The third stop of the current FIM JuniorGP™ World Championship took teams and its young talents to the famous Circuito de Jerez in southern Spain. Consistently good conditions over the past four days were the basis for attractive motorsport offered by all participants.

17-year-old Australian Senna Agius won the first three races of the new championship in superior style. He and his crew were only too keen to repeat this. But difficulties in various areas prevented the talented youngster from Sydney from realizing his full potential this weekend. Starting from fourth on the grid, Agius had to settle for third place in Sunday's race, limiting the damage in the points table.

In JuniorGP™ Moto3™ class, two races were again on the agenda. Jakob Rosenthaler and Leo Rammerstorfer, both from Upper Austria, finished 15th and 21st in Saturday’s news qualifying format and each moved up one position on the grid due to a retirement from another rider. In the first race in the morning, both put in strong performances, with Rosenthaler finishing ninth in the top-10 again and Rammerstorfer picking up the next point after his surprising 13th place two weeks ago.

The second race a few hours later turned out to be a bit more troublesome for both young riders. While Rosenthaler came home in P12 thanks to a strong finish, Rammerstorfer couldn't get past 19th place. Apart from the results, both Rosenthaler and Rammerstorfer could convince with a consistently good pace. Rosenthaler crossed the finish line twice less than three seconds behind the winner, while Rammerstorfer was able to reduce his gap to the winner's overall time by up to 15 seconds compared to previous races, which is a very gratifying improvement.

For Mohammed Abdalaziz Binladin, the only representative of LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Team in European Talent Cup, the big moment only came on Sunday in the "Last Chance Race", which he finished in a strong fourth place. The 15-year-old was just three tenths of a second short of the second place that would have allowed him to move into the main races.

After a three-week break, the challenging rollercoaster circuit of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in southern Portugal awaits the young talents.

"I am very happy with what we achieved in Jerez. From Saturday onwards I had a good pace and was able to keep the gap to the front consistently in the range of one to one-and-a-half seconds, something I have never managed before. The highlight was certainly not only the one point in the first race, but also my fastest race lap time this afternoon, which was only 0.6 seconds above the absolute fastest. Maybe something more would have been possible in this race. On the other hand, I reduced the gap to the winner’s time by more than 15 seconds compared with Valencia. We definitely can build on this improvement. I am already looking forward to the next races. Until then, I will continue to train hard in order to improve in many areas. But before that, a big thank you to the team, because without their support I would not be able making that rapid progress."

"After our great start to the season in Estoril, I am also happy with the result of the weekend here in Jerez with two placings in the points. From my point of view, it was a very turbulent weekend. It started well, but a pretty heavy crash on Thursday afternoon was not easy to put away. It was not until Friday afternoon that the feeling and confidence were back. When qualifying started on Saturday morning, everything was forgotten, and I was very motivated to make the direct jump into Q2. In the end I was 0.2 seconds short of that. So, I had to go into Q1, where I finished third and qualified for the fifth row in Q2 finally."

"In the first race I had a good start, and everything felt good until I lost a lens. That took me a bit out of concentration for a short time. Although I could not see well with one eye, I managed to close the gap to the guys in front of me. It was a big group and there was chaos all the way to the finish line. In this chaos I was able to do well and eventually score good points in ninth place. Unfortunately, things did not go quite as well for me in the second race. But I improved well in the course of the race and was able to fight my way to the front. I also contributed a lot in my group to closing the already relatively large gap to the leading group. I am also a bit proud that I was very strong again on the last lap after dropping back a few places a lap earlier, but I was able to make up for that. Twelfth place is also okay."

"Jerez was an unexpectedly difficult weekend. We had problems in too many key areas to really be able to fight in the race. Nevertheless, we were able to limit the damage in the championship and learned a lot that we can take with us for the rest of the season. Thanks to the whole LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Junior Team for their efforts this weekend. We will come back stronger in Portimao!"

"I am pleased with the progress we have made this weekend as well, even though we once again failed to master the qualifying hurdle for the main races although, our qualifying was not too bad. The best part of the weekend was my race this morning. Compared to my starting position, I made up a few positions. It was fun because I was able to push hard, even though the others were also fighting on their last legs. To top it all off, I set my fastest lap time of the weekend, a 1'50.2. I am happy with that and looking forward to the next race."
