Garzo takes strong 3rd place, Tulovic injured in race 1

The race Saturday was a rollercoaster of emotions for the Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE team after Lukas Tulovic crashed heavily in race 1 and had to be taken to hospital injured, as a result of which the race was cancelled and postponed. Hector Garzo took a strong third place in the subsequent repeat race. Earlier in race 2, he fought fiercely for eighth place after starting P2.

What promised to be a little early summer fairytale quickly took an unexpected turn, as the seventh round of the MotoE World Championship had to be cancelled on the second lap after Lukas Tulovic was brutally thrown from his Ducati in turn 15 after his rocket start in second position, remained motionless and had to be treated on-site. Fortunately, the all-clear was quickly given. The German was conscious. After further medical examinations at the race track and a scan at the hospital, a neck and lung contusion and a bilateral pneumothorax (a small tear in the lung) as well as a concussion were diagnosed. Lukas Tulovic has to stay overnight in a hospital in Florence and will return to Germany on Sunday, where he will hopefully use the several weeks' break to fully recover. The entire Intact GP family wishes "Tulo" a speedy and full recovery and hopes that their protégé will be able to celebrate his birthday on 15th June with joy and strength.

Due to the retirement of his team-mate, Hector Garzo inherited second place on the grid for the start of the second race, which he was unable to hold on to in the scramble on the first lap. Further close battles for position caused him to slip back to 8th place, from where the Spaniard fought hard to make up the lost position, but to no avail. There was no way past for the 25-year-old, who also has his birthday in a few days (9th of June), which meant he finished in eighth place. However, he still had one more chance, as the first race was restarted at 18:40 (CEST). In these remaining seven laps of the Italian Grand Prix, the tide turned in favour of the Spaniard. He got off to a strong start and fought a duel with Alessandro Zaccone for the holeshot, eventually lining up in second place. He doggedly tried to defend this position and reduce the already growing gap to the leader Kevin Zannoni, but had to concede defeat to Mattia Casadei's attacks towards the middle of the race. Garzo ultimately finished a strong third and was delighted with a total of 24 points, 8 from race 2 and 16 from race 1.

For the Dutch TT from the 28th - 30th of June, the German racing team hopes to be able to start again with a full line-up.
