Veijer tenth in farewell race, Suzuki scores points in P13

The LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Moto3 team's hopes of two runner-up titles remained unfulfilled at the grand season finale in Barcelona after Collin Veijer finished tenth despite starting from second on the grid and Tatsuki Suzuki also having fought hard for his 13th place.

Even if it was not the successful finale that Collin Veijer had hoped for after an outstanding season for his last Moto3 race, the Dutchman, who has written a success story with the German LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Team over two years, can look back on a total of two race wins, eleven podiums and three pole positions. Unfortunately, the 19-year-old's goal of snatching the runner-up title at the finale did not work out. Although Veijer was consistently in the leading group, his pace did not allow him to actively intervene in the race after he did not get off to the best possible start. Collin Veijer now closes an exciting first chapter of his world championship career in third place of the world championship. The Bavarian Racing Team would like to express their sincere gratitude to Collin Veijer for a period marked by trust and numerous successful moments. They wish the promising young talent all the best as he embarks on his journey into the Moto2 World Championship.

Tatsuki Suzuki struggled in the 18-lap race in sunny, albeit cool conditions on the 4.66-kilometre Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Starting from tenth on the grid, the Japanese rider initially made up a few positions but was unable to defend them and from then on moved further back in the sometimes 17-strong leading group. The 26-year-old fought fiercely for every point, having even dropped back to 17th position at one point. When the chequered flag waved for the last time in this exciting season of Moto3, Suzuki was in 13th place, which gave him another three points. Unfortunately not enough to snatch the runner-up title in the team standings with the six points of team-mate Collin Veijer. After switching from Honda to Husqvarna, Suzuki ended in 14th place in the World Championship and celebrated his best result of the season in America with sixth place. Overall, he scored points in 16 of the 20 races this season.

But even if it didn't work out with the titles this year, the LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Moto3 team appreciates every success, no matter how big or small, and would like to sincerely thank all team members for their tireless work to achieve the common goals as well as all sponsors and supporters who made this possible.

"My start was quite good, and I felt quite confident, although I had to be a bit careful on the left-hand side on the first few laps. But very early on, I had the feeling that we were losing a bit of speed on the straights because of the limiter. We were a bit too short geared. It wasn't going to turn out the way we had planned, as our choice didn't work out perfectly. Anyway, I enjoyed my last race in Moto3 because I had some nice battles. So, I'm happy with the race, even if I don't completely agree, because with a slightly better gearbox, it could have gone much better. But I'm happy with how it went because we finished it and now it's on to next year. I'm also happy to finish the championship in third place overall because we did better than last year and that was our goal. Finally, a big thank you to LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP for two unforgettable years with them. I have learned a lot for my future - thanks to everyone for everything!"

"It was a really disappointing race for me because I didn't feel comfortable right from the start. So, I couldn't give 100 percent. It was about getting the maximum out of the situation. Nevertheless, it is frustrating to finish in P13. It was not the result we needed and obviously not what we wanted to achieve. I'm really sad about how we ended the season today. But anyway, it is what it is. Even though we didn't get a podium, a front row or a pole position, it was a pretty decent season after I struggled to adapt coming from another manufacturer to this Husqvarna bike. But the team helped me a lot all the time and we always worked hard together with Peter and the whole team. I am very grateful for that. A big thank you to everyone who has stood behind me and helped throughout the year."

"I think, and I'm sure it's not just my opinion, that a worthy replacement for Valencia has been found with Barcelona and that this event will also help the region of Valencia. We had a good season finale here in perfect conditions. From our point of view, we worked very well in each practice session, and also at the last race weekend, as second and tenth on the grid clearly showed. Unfortunately, we couldn't be satisfied with the race day, because we didn't give our riders the bike, they deserved to show what they are really capable of. It was a shame for Tatsu in particular because he had the potential to finish in the top six as in the last two races. Collin, on the other hand, also gave his all but had to accept that more was not possible in these conditions. Nevertheless, we can draw a positive balance of this season. Collin finished third in the championship, which we also achieved in the team’s classification. We are talking about a World Championship, and I would therefore like to thank the entire team and our riders, who did an excellent job and showed that we were very competitive every weekend. I would also like to thank Stefan Keckeisen, Jürgen Lingg and Wolfgang Kuhn for their excellent cooperation, which is a great pleasure - thank you very much!"
